All have dreams and passion in our life and the fact is only 10% of people end up pursuing their passion as a career. Then how can you be happy at work when you wanted to be an actor or an artist or a singer or wanted to travel but you end up working as an engineer or any other profession.
Most of us are not fortunate to work in a so-called dream company or a dream job. Most of us cannot affordable passion due to the commitments we have or we might have been forced by our family and society to choose either engineering or engineering. Most of us including me, work to fulfil our financial needs may be to pay debts, loans and to take care of our family and so on...

Before getting to know how to be happy at work, ask yourself are you happy? Are you happy in your life? If you are not happy in your life no matter what you do, you cannot be happy at work. To be happy at work you must be happy in life first. The important thing to be fixed is “Life” instead of thinking about your work time, think about remaining time apart from your work. How you are living those remaining hours of a day?

We all had balance in our life until we started to work. Just think of the school days, we all hated sitting in the class listing to not so engaging, boring topics and we all had one teacher we hated most. In spite of these, we never complained about our school days. WHY? Because at the end of each day we had that excitement to go back to our home to watch our favourite cartoon, to play with our friends, cricket, evening snacks etc.
We had a life after school but why is that missing in our work because we don't have anything exciting in our life after work.
10:14 Rule
Over the years I have figured it out myself and created a rule for me, I call it the 10-14 rule. I have divided my day into 2 parts: 10 hours for work and 14 hours for myself
In that 10 hours, I don’t have any expectations. The only expectation is to finish the days' work, do it for a month and get paid for it as salary. In the 10 hours, I work very dedicatedly and I’m very productive and I don’t get myself distracted. My goal is to complete all the work in that 10 hours no matter what. I plan my day to get the things done in that 10 hours.
The best part of being super productive at work is you will finish the work soon and you start doing a lot of things in the given time and this will help you to achieve your career goals.
The remaining 14 hours is for me. This is where I pursue all my passion and the things I love to do. You don't have to make money out of your passion. Passion is excitement for something or about doing something. Every single day I’m super excited about my remaining 14 hours. I do a lot of things, I watch a lot of movies & series, I learn new skills recently I learnt web designing and built this website, I write blogs, I read books, spend time with family and of course, I make youtube videos. This is all because I follow the 10-14 rule.
I don’t want to earn an active income from my passion. For me, passion is something I love to do. Because I have a regular job and I get paid for that job.
To be happy at work you need to be happy in your life and to be happy in life you need to do the things you love and are passionate about. That is how the 10-14 rule works. From 10 hours of a regular job, you earn and you spend it in the remaining 14 hours for things you are passionate about.
Define your goal or purpose at work

Think! why are you working is it for the salary, there is nothing wrong in working for a salary. Everyone works for salary so that they can meet their financial need. Is it because of the job security, or is it because of that job role or is it because of the company or to gain experience or you are passionate about job?
When you don’t define your goal or purpose at work you will start to expect a lot from that job and as wise men say Expectation hurts. When these expectations don’t meet your requirements and you cannot be happy at work.
Think of the things that you are getting out of this job it might be salary, experience, knowledge or even good colleagues who knows in future they might become your good friends.
Create a bond
Most of us may hate school or the boring subject or one teacher whom we don’t like but what kept us going were friends. Apart from my school and college friends many of my best friends are my colleagues. Try to create a good bond with your colleagues who make you feel positive, who inspires you at work. Create a mentor-mentee relationship at work.
Be a mentor to someone at work teach them, inspire them. You be a mentee and learn new things and get inspired from your colleagues. This creates a wonderfully positive learning environment at work.
